1992 Jeep Wrangler Oil Pressure?
Question: I have a 92 4.0L Wrangler, have had a grease pump replaced a few months ago. It has 140K miles. The problem is this.. Sometimes (can dance a whole afternoon of driving without this scheduled at times) The oil pressure will drop to 0. At this time a nouns gets legitimate noisey and a rod rap can be heard if you rev it. It stays at nothing until I shut the motor off and restart. Every time I resart it go back up, even after 1 second of off/on cycle. I am losing grease pressure and it doesn't come back until I shut down and restart, strange. I hold the oil vessel off and grease pump out, all looks approaching new still.
As I said, It have gone a full day at 40psi no problem and afterwards some days it can do this zero drop 2 times inwardly 5 minutes.
Temperature, driving conditions angle, nothing seem to change its behaviour.
I am thinking maybe the grease pressure relief stopcock? Maybe the oil filter (new by the way) There must be something doing this!!? Help please.
Answers:
yes this sounds approaching a pressure relief tap problem, replace the pump again, they should supply one under warranty
if the grease filter goes into bypass it still maintain pressure, just skips filter
Did you clean or better even so, replace the screen on the grease pickup? It sounds like you are getting blockage when it's running at highway speed and cause a lot of suction. Shutting it down would allow the 'crud' to shift so it would flow again. Take stale and replace the screen on the pickup, and I would bet you the problem will stop.
if it have 40 psi normally afterwards the engine is still good at this time, i would check the pressure nouns valve for sure, also check the grease pump drive for wear and tear and be paid sure there isnt a baffle contained by the oil container coming loose.an oil filter could end in the problem as well but if you own changed it and the problem is still there that should rule it out unless you used the exact same filter. hope this help
sounds like the grease pump pickup screen is plugged. probably from excessive rtv sealent. fix it or replace engine.
I would hold the new pump checked and the filter. I've have "new" parts be bad. Could also be electrical.
Try to see if here isnt a short in the electrical nouns to the pump. My 95 cherokee appears to be losing oil pressure abundantly but i have determined that its the sending element thats bad not the grease pump
All i know is i`m getting 2 points for this
