Hi brianthesnail123,
I recommend Knoppix Live CD ( http://www.knoppix.org ) it is trouble-free to use and has penguins! ;o)

I've used Knoppix and really approaching it...boot from CD and play around, figure it out. Much easier than installing.
If you want to install Unbuntu is probably my favorite distro right presently...very flowing to use.

Try Ubuntu or Kubuntu both run as live cd/dvd as well.
Ubuntu is by far the most popular Linux and is suddenly replacing Windows on older computers that can't run Vista.
And Beryl desktop is natural to install on Ubuntu if you really want some amazing visual effects.
Here are some links for the DVD version.
Ubuntu

I prefer Kubuntu over Ubuntu.
You will probably want the i386 versions unless you enjoy a AMD 64 processor.
Have fun.
Another alternative is Fedora Core 6. I am currently running it on my computer, and it was pretty easy to install, plus through the Fedora trellis site there are comparatively a few upgrades and add ons available.
