Hi
try going to one of the big Pet supermarkets, they have a in one piece range of foods for this nature of thing, That Science diet stuff is dreadful my cats wouldnt touch it and I cant vote I blame them, but I found good alternatives and they did get through them, I know mine are cats but the principle is the same.

Protein in urine is typically a sign that the kidneys aren't functioning correctly and the protein is being passed undigested into the urinary tract. A low protein diet would be recommended within this case (this would be equal if a human was have the same problem).
Protein within the urine means he'll necessitate to feed his dog something specifically easy on the kidneys.
So I would buy a food explicitly made for senior dogs. (Lots available here UK)
The senior food puts less stress on the kidneys.
Hope that help.
My cat had this problem. You want a food to be precise chicken or beef (perhaps lamb or duck) that has reduced amounts of magnesium. I found that Pro Plan (purina) in actual fact had smaller number magnesium than science diet.
Protein in urine may indicate some problem within the bladder, like an infection. Other than that it is not so worrying. So hold the dog's urine analysed to see if he's OK, and apart from that just bequeath him good food, I guess, or ask the vet what he should chomp through.
My cat had this problem and the vet prescribed food that cost $.80 per can AND I have to feed the cat three times a sunshine. After realizing that this be way too expensive I go to petsmart and found a PH balanced cat food that worked fine. He's not have any problems since, and I saved a few bucks. I'm positive that they take home PH balanced dog food. There are probably several diff. brands. Tell your friend to newly read the labels.
