2 New amazingly startled Guinea Pigs, how do I house-train them?
Question: I have just now aquired 2 young guinea pigs, one is a bit elder as it came from a different pet shop. My problem is that they are exceedingly timid! I am keeping them inside in an indoor enclose. We have no children and they enjoy been kept terribly calm contained by a warm calmness place. I am trying to handle them every afternoon and once picked up they do sit calmly. The problem is that they junk to come out of their little sleeping box if anyones in the room. If you do arise upon one venturing out they break for a second and then scamper subsidise as if their life is surrounded by danger!
I am individual very compassionately with them and doing eveything I can not to frighten them, have anyone got any tips on how best to break them so that they arent so terrified of me?
Also do you know of any worthy toys or things that I can put in their shut within or do with them for enrichment?

Here are some tips we use at the Guinea Pig rescue center I volunteer at and I use like tips on my own Guinea Pigs. Works great in taming them.
When surrounded by the room, go over to the enclose and talk to them. This will return with them use to your voice.
After awhile of talking to them get your hand contained by, or put a little cloth in nearby with your scent on it. This route they are getting use to your scent. Do this while still talking to them.
When getting them out, sermon to them first, let them smell your paw, and then pet them a few minutes back reaching in a picking them up. This will relieve them develop a bond with you.
When handling them, play next to them and talk to them. This will establish you as apart of their group. Soon they will know you and not be afraid of you anymore. All this will give support to tame them and develop a trust between them and you.
As for toys, we recommend at the center that at hand is no paper or cardboard use for toys, as these both contain chemicals that can mar a Guinea Pig when chewed on. Though cardboard tubs sound resembling a good toy it isn't and hugely dangerous to the Guinea Pigs.
The toys I use for my girls and that we use at the center are as followed.
Old towels as they love to hide under them.
Old rag that they can pick up and move around.
Wooden Tunnels that they can run through.
Wooden chew sticks, or Guinea Pig chew sticks as they love to chew.
Little balls, they love to push things around.
Little stuffed toys, as they love to cuddle up near them and move them around.
Most of all simply room to run and play with respectively other.

www.guinealynx.com is a really good site.i enjoy 3 pigs and they all own different characters.my favourite comes out first every time and later the other will follow always organized to run back the third have stayed timid and wont come out for a long time,so bare surrounded by mind you could have two timid pigs anyway.
what i did to find the two out that come out is if i go surrounded by with veg i clutch it in a plastic shoulder bag so it rustles.i open their pen door and appointment come on come on and they hear the bag rustle.they squeal next to delight when they see me.i never handle them for a couple of weeks just did like peas in a pod feeding routine.my kids other handle them but its me they come to most cos i single feed them not take into custody them up.now my fave comes and stands on my shoes to go and get higher up my legs to see what treat i bought.mine enjoy a wooden ball that they can gnaw and miscellaneous other gnawing treats.also they love hiding holes so they own 3 of those plus a piece of clay tubular drain that you can buy from builders merchant to hide contained by.the thing they delight in most tho is eating !!hay pellet and cucumber,spring veg etc.they live to eat!
you did the right point buying two tho cos they can interact with respectively other and that is pious for them too.
Hi, Mine were resembling that too! even the babies I raised from birth run away from me at times. They are lately naturally skittish animals, however nearby are a few tactics you can try. Put some tubes within their cage (big ample for them to hide in) next they will feel smaller quantity exposed. you can also try putting a thick band of hay in, so they can tunnel through that. This also covers toys, although they do resembling things that make a swish too, such as bird bells! Another thing to do is to sit by the enclose when you are at home, so they can see you and smell you, but you are not threatening, as you are not in their space. Give them a couple of days resembling this, without trying to pick them up, and consequently start by putting your hand surrounded by the cage beside treats in it, such as broccoli, they will be reticent at first, but after a few days they will start to associate your hand next to food, and will start coming to you once you have put your mitt in the enclose. when they do that you can start trying to handle them, (remember to appendage feed them treats when you are holding them too!)

if you hold on handling them but also you could get some veggies and hold them contained by front of the piggies as they may come out of the sleeping box and come to see what you have braught them.
They are prey animals and so are easily skittish (it's there single real defence). You will requirement to be very merciful and persistent and they will eventually come around however they will other be nervous animals. Handle them as much as you can and show them you are not gouing to hurt them it's the solitary way they will procure to trust you and food of course other helps.
my dated females were resembling that . because in the unreserved they were bottom of the food manacle, they are scared flowing.....just aproch the coop calmly and cooperate softly so they know were u are....if they run and hair sit by the cage sermon softly...also when we were on the phone to someone we would sit by the enclose, so they get used to us...when they win use to u ,stroke them, if you want ,when there put away food in the coop.
my guinea pigs were exactly similar to that when i first got them and very soon they try and jump on me knees whenever i go to see 'em so that shows that they do eventually start to trust you. by the agency, if they are house guinea pigs, a great piece of advice is to not pussyfoot around their coop. they need to catch used to the different noises within your house, like the telly, the phone and citizens talking and after a while they will realise that these sounds are of no threat to them. i suggest you put a adjectives corn on the cob into their cage as they surely love them and will strip the whole entry bare! this is extremely obedient for them and keeps them entertain for a while. my tips for taming them is to open the door on their nest box and address to them softly while gently stroking them only behind the ears.i did this most days and it really help in getting them used to my voice and they sussed out that i wasn't going to hurt them. hold on to persevering and they will become incredibly friendly little guineas!! my ones are proof of this.
guinea pigs are lovely little creatures that will very now and then bite. offering food out you hand will assistance to start with choose foods that they won't enjoy to get to close to arrive at like sticks of carrot or blades of grass. once they have started to trust you you should know how to hold them they love to be stroked and will enjoy self brushed with a child brush.they will soon get totally cheeky mine squeak when they want fresh veggies
Guinea pigs are notoriously timid,they enjoy come from a pet shop into a home and are just react to the new sounds around them,a tip i use next to my pigs is when you go out resign from a radio on,this helps them catch used to people chitchat etc,and different sounds around them,you can always entice them out near their favourite food,natural beetroot,fresh parsley and spinach,they will start to associate you with food and blissfully greet you when you come near,as for toys simply put in toilet roll tubes that they can chew to alleviate boredom,and bigger tubes for them to play contained by,they'll be fine and you seem to be doing adjectives the right things,good luck.
Put a foot in their hold, but don't move. If one starts biting you, SLOWLY move your hand away. immediate movements will frighten them. Later, keep slightly moving your mitt until it's out stretched. After that, put some food on that hand, and they might step on to devour. Resist closing your hand around it. You will own lost your bond after all the waiting. This requires tolerant, but it really pays off!
hi nearby as others have answered adjectives the guinea pigs have different nature, i had one that be shy and one that was how shall we put it chopsy. You simply have to be long-suffering and talk and fiddle with them daily.
A great activity for them is to get a carrot, cucumer, sprouts, lettuce etc an tie to a piece of string next hang the string from the top of th enclose, great fun for them as they bite it swings and they have to corner it for the next bite, they cotton on afterwards to bite throughthe sring and the veg will drop

When u pilfer them out hand fees them fresh veg,dandilion leaves and grass. Then they'll connect human company next to food.
When they're hiding hold out some food to where they are. Hold it tremendously still for a while so they can smell it. If they don't move towards it put it in thier bowl. If you repeat this (say once a day) eventually the'll scheme towards your hand and the food and lift it from you (they'll always drad it away to guzzle though). The next stage is everytime you bring them food hold it further und further away for them to go and get and then eventually you'll a moment ago have stick it through the bar of the cage and they'll come and lug it! This worked with adjectives of my pigs and they all build their confidence similar to this. One won't even run when I go to pick him up!
It take time but you have to be calm and patient.
Toys: The best are simply cardboard tubes. Guinea pigs never bother with any of the rubbish u see contained by shops. Hiding food in going on for for them is fun. And when the weather's nice you should put them in an outside run on graas for exercise.

lots and lots of handling . pick them up together and talk to them mine calmed down surrounded by a few days and now hurdle on to my hand to be picked up
