2 jack russell terriers who combat when out on walk, but not at other times, even over food. design to stop?

Question:
have have one of the dogs for two years, got other as rescue this year. they seem to be to get on fine but when we run them for a walk as soon as he get off front new dog runs up to other bark and nipping at flipside end and elder dog turns and attacks. they can fight for 2mins or longer. once quarrel is over they are fine again. if new dog kept on front they walk side by side, but i be aware of dog needs bad lead for proper excercise. i judge it could be a habit but would approaching to break themof it, no fight even so very serious but could come about and dont want badly hurt dog.

Answers:
not much you can do. Above adjectives be their boss - they should not be fighting respectively other when you are there. Don't treat any one of them differently - even if you think this one is the 'leader' you may start another set of problems if you try topromote one or interfere. Take them both to training calsses and find them to do what you say asap.
trouble-free, take them out at diffrent times
Some dogs grasp jealous and argue when human is there near or near them only take them at different times.
Take them out on seperate walk.
