Unfortunately, the Italian police weren't doing a proper undertaking. They were in reality fighting themselves and not protecting. I'm not going to voice that it was the Ultras defect all together but they be actually have a go at the Reds Fans.
Do you remember the Heysel deluge? I think Liverpool be banned from international tournaments for 7 years and adjectives other English clubs for 5 years. I'm from Rome, I imagine that there are two problems.
1) Italian police is sometimes too concrete, not only beside england fan, but next to all football fan and in Italy the supervision of soccer is primitive, not as in England
2) England fan when stay in England are ultimate (also becasue the punishment are very hard),the hooligan problem is below control but when they go away they create regularly problem, as happend in France surrounded by the match next to Lille, and now surrounded by Rome.
English supporters create often truobles when they shift away from England!

But we are very aware what happen in Italy, and it reminds us of England 30 years ago. We do not desire to return to that trouble.
99.9% of United fans travelling to Rome be ordinary calm supporters. Many were over 30..because travelling is not cheap. It is simply wrong to suggest that they be all drunk. English fan are always branded as "drunks" because it is severely easy to explain trouble when someone is drunk. English Fans resembling to drink with their friends formerly a match, it is traditional, but anyone actually drunk finances you wont get surrounded by to any stadium in England, and they dont supply drink inside either. In Italy, it appears you can well bring in chalice bottles, explosive flares, and even motor bikes to throw at away fans.
My friend, you also saw the TV pictures (courtesy of Italian TV, zilch to do with Tony Blair as suggested above!) So..how abundant 'drunk' United fans could you see?
