A nice town/attraction to stop by between Rome and Pisa?
Question: we are travelling to Rome and flying out of Pisa, it's a late flight and on our means of access to go see the preference tower we would like to stop somewhere worthwhile... we're travelling by train

The unambiguous answer would be Florence, as it is the main city within Tuscany and hosts many historic attractions and illustrious museums (including the Uffizi)...but if you are looking for something different I recommend a trip to Siena and its suburbs...the countryside is breathtaking and there are profusely of beautiful,little,cosy towns sitting other up the mountains...Chianciano,Montepu... san Salvatore,Sarteano,etc...
Wherever you decide to travel, however, do not forget to try out the local wine...sublime!
Wow! It's my favorite part of the world. Siena is where on earth everyone goes, bit in attendance are plently fo pretty places in the nouns. Avoid Milan, which is a dump despite the Sforza palace, but not really on your route.
i think you hold to change surrounded by Florence anyway so you could take a break nearby.

I agree with Richard and Sienna. But the Cathedral contained by Florence must warrant your attention.
I went to for a while town nearby Pisa call Lucca, which is described as a mini florence but much quieter. There are some lovely buildings there and its surrounded by a fortress wall. They have some markets in attendance for buying shoes etc.
I enjoyed it as a amendment of pace from some other places within Italy.

Sure Florence and Siena. I be born in Rome and I live implicit Florence so I know all these cities and I do regard as that Florence and Siena are beautiful.

I would suggest a wonderful little town on the coast south of Rome call Sperlonga.
You can get in that by taking regional trains stopping in the station Fondi-Sperlonga. Enjoy!
I undeniably agree - Lucca is charming and can get busy at hugely touristy times, but is not as well set as Siena (still very lovely) and Florence. You can meander all round the principal centre on the wall surrounding the town/city and it is incredibly friendly and quaint. Otherwise Florence is a late cert - wonderful and soooo beautiful. I intuitively wouldn't bother with Pisa - it smells, is in recent times the main sites and lots of beggars and seller and little else. It also seems to be surrounded by a very plain rundown suburban nouns. Sorry!

Florence is specifically one of the most beautiful cities contained by Italy if not within the world. If you're travelling by train it is perfect for you because you can realize it from Rome in a couple of hours and next take a train directly to Pisa airport - it take about 45/50 minutes from Firenze Santa Maria Novella.
San Gimignano - a bit smaller than others suggested (which are adjectives fantastic, by the way), but fascinating.
To be honest, if you steer clear of Livorno, which doesn't hold much to recommend it, you won't go wrong. Just relish the life.
Florence. Beautiful ! I only returned today from there and Siena. The latter is relatively interesting and very infirm, but the locals keep strange trading hours? Considering how essential tourism is in Siena so abundant places close at odd times. Also it can be reasonably noisy contained by the centre at hours of darkness with copious young ancestors seemingly at a loss as to how to occupy there spare time. The decrease quaint antediluvian streets are spoiled somewhat with damn workshy motorists pushing their way through !
It is better reach by bus (Siena Rapida) from Florence costing EUR 6.50 and taking around an hour & 20 minutes.
